What GenWise is all aboutGeneral Practice with a difference

WHO?
GenWise was established by a group of Australian General Practitioners who have dedicated their careers to improving the standard of aged care in Australia. General Practitioner owned and operated, GenWise is a clinic “for doctors, by doctors” with no lock in contracts, no minimum billings and most importantly a strong belief in preserving doctor-patient continuity.Aged Care

WHY?
In 2016 there are more than 275,000 older australians living in residential aged care. Many of thesepeople are without a regularly visiting General Practitioner. In one of the most vulnerable and challenging stages of life they are being let down.

HOW?
GenWise is doing what we can to help solve this problem by taking a few simple steps
Raise awareness and the profile of aged care medicine amongst General Practice communities
Empower and support General Practitioners to start visiting a local aged care facility
Educate General Practitioners, aged care facilities, patients and families on the essentials of good quality, holistic health care for older Australians

LOOKING TO THE FUTURE
GenWise isn’t rocket science – it is just good old fashioned medicine driven by the belief that every older Australian deserves choice and timely access to quality medical care. Since 2013 GPs across Australia have been joining our community that now reaches far and wide – from Darwin to Tasmania. But we have barely scratched the surface. We still need more GPs to join our cause  which is where you come in.

Even if you are completely new to aged care you can help – caring for just handful of patients at your local aged care facility will help make a change.

Genwise shared Rooster Radio's Thriving vs Fading in Old Age (Troy Wallett and Sebastian Rees). ... See MoreSee Less

Why do some people thrive, while others fade, in old age? As GPs who specialise in the field of aged care, Dr Troye Wallett and Dr Sebastian Rees share their insights on Rooster Radio (full interview: roosterradio.biz/blog/2017/9/27/ep-93how-troye-wallett-and-sebastian-rees-built-a-virtual-doctors...). Troye and Sebastian are the founders of Genwise, a company that is changing the way that GPs do business. The guys built GenWise to solve their own problems around practice management in the aged care sector. Now the platform is being embraced by doctors and patients Australia wide. GenWise was recently crowned Australian Business of the Year at the prestigious Telstra Business Awards. GenWise is a virtual practice with no bricks and mortar clinic, boosting efficiencies and lowering costs with its innovative “practice in your pocket”. Troye and Sebastian talk about the future of health and improving the disconnect between patients and the health system. We also had a fascinating and philosophical discussion about ageing and death, and how our fear of talking about these issues is holding us back.
